Dustin Plantholt’s “Life’s Tough—YOU can be TOUGHER!” podcast is honored to feature Ashkan Karbasfrooshan, online media content trailblazer and Founder & CEO of WatchMojo.com. Ashkan shares his story of his entrepreneurial hits and misses and what shaped and influenced him to create WatchMojo.com—one of the most successful producers of premium online video content.

This “Life’s Tough” episode released on September 4th, 2019 and is now available on all major podcast networks, under the Podcast Channel “Life’s Tough”.

After graduating with a finance degree from one of the top colleges in the nation, Ashkan started his career as in-house finance analyst at Mamma—one of the original meta-search engines on the web. He then shifted to the online publishing industry where he headed up advertising sales for AskMen—which was subsequently sold to News Corp. As a budding entrepreneur, he left News Corp. and established Mojo Supreme in 2006 as an incubator which spawned multiple projects, including WatchMojo.com—which took off and today counts media companies and marketers as clients, and which to this day has never raised financing and is profitable since 2011.

A prolific writer, Ashkan has written thousands of articles on business, entertainment, travel, lifestyle and much more. His articles have been published on Yahoo!, MSN, AOL, MediaPost, PaidContent, GigaOm and Tech Crunch. He has also authored several books–Course to Success: Everything You Need to Succeed Beyond School; The Confessions of Alexander the Great: 33 Lessons in Greatness; and the 10-Year Overnight Success: An Entrepreneur’s Manifesto.

In the 10-Year Overnight Success: An Entrepreneur’s Manifesto he describes his achievements and failures in creating WatchMojo.com, which would become the most successful media brand on YouTube. Ashkan created WatchMojo with a vision to “inform and entertain,” and with a mission to produce “a video on every topic” and ones that were of higher quality than the user-generated fare found on most websites, and in a format (style, length and tone) that catered to Internet viewers’ tastes.

With over 12 billion all-time video views and 21 million subscribers, WatchMojo.com has one of the largest channels on YouTube. Throughout the first three months of 2019, its reach grew to 250 million unique viewers across YouTube, Snap, Facebook and other platforms. With such unparalleled success, no wonder Ashkan was a winner of the 2015 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year in the media & entertainment category.
