Doron Kempel was born (July 29, 1963) and raised in Israel—later moving to the United States to pursue business ventures. He attended Harvard Business School and graduated with a Master of Business Administration (MBA). Additionally, he holds a law degree (LLM) and a philosophy degree (BA) from Tel Aviv University. An ardent athlete, he was also a member of Israel’s national youth team-handball team.
Kempel spent 13 years (from 1981 – 1994) with the Israeli Defense Forces and rose to deputy chief of Sayeret Matkal, a special forces unit of the IDF, in which former Israeli Prime Ministers Ehud Barak and Benjamin Netanyahu served as officers. While at Sayeret Matkal, he led dozens of covert special missions and was decorated the Chief of Staff Decoration by then Chief of IDF Lt. General Ehud Barak, for remarkable courage, command, and resourcefulness under fire. In 1992, while on leave completing his Law degree in Tel Aviv University, he was called to lead the planning and preparation of Operation Bramble Bush—the targeted elimination of Saddam Hussein, then President of Iraq. Kempel was designated to lead the mission in Iraq, but it was called off due to a tragic accident during the mission’s final rehearsal causing the death of five Israeli soldiers. Although Kempel was offered to continue his service in the IDF, he chose to discontinue his military career and pursue business endeavors. He applied and was accepted to Harvard Business School, thereby launching his illustrious business career.
As a foremost technology innovator with a keen business acumen, Kempel has led a renowned professional career. He was Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Imedia Corporation—whereby becoming a US citizen—to later being the Vice President and General Manager for the Media Solutions Group at EMC Corporation in 1998 and leading that organization until 2001. In 2003, Kempel co-founded data-storage company Diligent Technologies with fellow entrepreneur Moshe Yanai and later sold it to IBM in April 2008 for an estimated $200 million. In August 2009, Kempel founded SimpliVity Corporation, which pioneered the introduction of HyperConverged, Cloud IT Infrastructure which combined server, storage, and networking into one device in an all-in-one system. In February 2017, HPE acquired SimpliVity for an estimated $650 million (including an additional approximately $50 million for retention and incentives of SimpliVity employees). Immediately after selling SimpliVity, Kempel began working on Bond, personally investing millions of dollars. Bond was in development for almost two years before it began beta testing the Bond app in an undisclosed Connecticut town in 2019, before launching it nationwide in November of that same year. The Bond platform is designed in order to offer greater security and peace-of-mind for all, including cases that are not initially a 911 emergency, but that individuals are concerned about. It anchors on Bond Personal Security Agents who are available 24/7 via the Bond app, and respond within seconds, in order to guide, monitor and orchestrate help by first responders or other Bond professionals. Bond services include various options of on-demand monitoring of Bond members, via live video, by having members designate time for security checks; or use of purported artificial intelligence in context of a service named “track me on the go” that can detect if a member is on the anticipated route and if has gone from walking to running or into a moving vehicle; an unexpected change in movement will prompt a Bond Personal Security Agents representative to check-in on a customer/member or call police.Bond can be available for children and monitor them when out of the supervision of their parents. Bond can guide and support is members in real-time including cases where they need a car to pick them up, roadside assistance, and even bodyguards on demand.
